Placer Sangha Visits JSC

The Placer Buddhist Church chartered a bus this past fall and was joined with members of the Buddhist Church of Sacramento to visit the BCA’s Jodo Shinshu Center (JSC) in Berkeley, California.

While most members have heard of the Jodo Shinshu Center, they did not have a clear understanding of the role it played in the BCA.

On arrival, the group was greeted by the smiling faces of Bishop Rev. Marvin Harada, BCA Administrator Gayle Noguchi, Executive Assistant and Secretary to the Bishop Rev. Michael Endo, CBE Program Assistant and Youth Coordinator Koichi Mizushima, and Assistant Facilities Manager Pam Matsuoka.

The tour began with a brief service followed by a tour of the facility, an explanation of the programs, and a delicious curry chicken lunch prepared by Rev. Harada.

The group is very grateful for the hospitality, but more important, we left with a greater appreciation of the value of the JSC in preparing future leaders, ministers, and minister’s assistants to carry on the Jodo Shinshu tradition.

The Placer Buddhist Church encourages other temples to have Sangha members visit the JSC.
