Visit Our Temple

Join us for a welcoming, reflective service, open to all.

All Are Welcome

Visiting a Buddhist temple for the first time can feel unfamiliar, but you don’t need any prior experience to attend a service at the Buddhist Temple of Marin. Whether you are exploring Buddhism, visiting with family, or simply curious, you are welcome to join us just as you are.

Our temple is part of the Buddhist Churches of America (BCA) and follows the Jōdo Shinshū (Shin Buddhist) tradition. While each service has its own rhythm, our focus is always on listening, reflection, gratitude, and compassion in everyday life.

Practices & Traditions

The Buddhist Temple of Marin follows the Jōdo Shinshū tradition, which emphasizes:

  • Listening deeply rather than striving for perfection

  • Reflecting on our lives and relationships

  • Gratitude for the causes and conditions that support us

  • Compassion for ourselves and others

During a service, you may notice:

  • Chanting in English and/or Japanese

  • Bowing as a gesture of respect (optional)

  • The chanting of the Nembutsu (“Namo Amida Butsu”) as an expression of gratitude

You are never required to perform any rituals. Quiet observation is always welcome.
