Techno Hoyo Returning for U.S. Tour

Techno Hoyo will once again return to North America in February, beginning as a special event on Feb. 13 at the BCA Northwest District Convention and the National Council Meeting in Renton, Washington.

The other stops on this year’s tour will include the Buddhist Church of Sacramento on Feb. 17; Mountain View Buddhist Temple on Feb. 18; Fresno Betsuin Buddhist Temple on Feb. 20; and Orange County Buddhist Church on Feb. 22.

At each location, the service will be offered in close collaboration with the local Sangha, honoring the unique space and community of each temple.

We are honored to once again welcome Rev. Gyosen Asakura, a Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha minister from Japan.

Techno Hoyo is a Buddhist service that integrates electronic music, lighting, and visual imagery with the traditional dignity of the temple’s Onaijin, or inner altar.

Within this carefully created space — evoking the Pure Land through contemporary expression — participants are invited to listen deeply to Amida Buddha’s Primal Vow and entrust themselves to the Nembutsu teaching.

Techno Hoyo is not intended as entertainment or performance, but as a true Buddhist service that conveys the spirit of tradition through forms that speak to our present time.

The first U.S. tour in September 2024 began at the New York Buddhist Church and continued in California at Nishi Betsuin, San Jose Betsuin, and the University of Southern California.

Each venue welcomed large audiences and received an enthusiastic response. Building on that experience, the upcoming tour marks the second Techno Hoyo U.S. tour.

During the 2024 tour, participation extended beyond younger generations to include long-time temple members and people of all ages.

Techno Hoyo became a shared space where those who had little prior connection to Buddhism or temple life, as well as those who have long been familiar with the Nembutsu teaching, could come together to experience joy and appreciation side by side.

In listening together to the call of the Nembutsu, participants were invited into a moment of reflection and gratitude that transcended differences in background, generation and experience.

This experience reaffirmed that the teachings of Jodo Shinshu —  centered on the Nembutsu — has the power to connect people across generations, communities and forms of expression.

The 2026 tour builds upon these lessons and seeks to deepen them through continued collaboration with Sanghas across North America.
